Snapshots from an expensive holiday
The rot runs deep, but beauty finds a way to show up, sneak in, spill out.
Rosy starlings gave us an evening show ever so often. All the neck pain was well worth it.
Part of an ongoing project capturing women of IIMA. I am running far behind, but hopefully it’ll drag me to campus every year.
Iced Latte at Korebi! My reason to get up every morning.
I joke that the voice in my head is a guy in finance. He scoffs at everything I do. Didn’t understand capex? Didn’t get logistic regression? Dared like an OB course? Scoff, scoff, scoff. This dude has been scoffing in my head rent free since we both had missing teeth. Then he was just a guy great at math who made me jumble up my mental calculations. And so I have gone through life declaring that I hate women comics, nail paint, giggling - anything that the guy in finance might disapprove of. This sorting and discarding is exhausting because his gaze is ever present - the beast never sleeps. But I don’t kick him out, instead I seek his counsel. Help me segregate the world in neat binaries. Help me sir - which old prejudice to fall back on this time. But there’s one place where I don’t give in. His strict orders to read self-help books. Maybe there’s still hope left for me.
Part of an assignment for Gender and Work (one of the best courses I attended). A classmate walked up to me and said, “You’re so brave for admitting your truth!”
Zeba (L) and Rahul (R) are my first dog friends - thanks to my best friend Anju. Her love for animals on the campus warmed my heart every day.
I did, in fact, abandon all hope when I entered my first MBA class.
From another favourite course, Participatory Theatre. This is what our group did with handouts from the Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Quite apt, if you ask me.
“You could have done much better than what you did. But no regrets.”
“Hey guys - better be more focused on the course matter. There will be time to enjoy later. However don’t get stressed out.”
Interesting quotes left by men of older batches. Found in IIMA archives.
"There are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see.”
Text from mother during the first month.
The notorious Ahmedabad rains meant laundry that never dries but also so many umbrella friendships!
thanks for stopping by. hope you have a bearable time.
